Description:
Very Rare MS63 1869 Seated Quarter
1869 25C MS63 PCGS. Briggs 1-A. The year 1869 is another one in which the small mintage of Liberty Seated quarters took a distant back seat in Philadelphia to various other coinage preoccupations. While the quarters were produced to the extent of only 16,000 pieces, the Seated halves comprised nearly 800,000 examples. This piece shows a triple-punched 1 in the date, with remaining digits double-punched. On the reverse there are crisscrossing die polish lines, including one starting at the period after DOL., past arrowheads, touching the tip of the second arrowhead, and intersecting a right-angle die line from the dentils. The surfaces display generous luster with light pink-champagne patina on the obverse, while the reverse is mostly brilliant. A very rare issue in Mint State. Population: 5 in 63, 3 finer (8/08).
Ex: Robert Michael Prescott Collection (ANR, 1/2006), lot 378.
