Description:
1972 Ike Dollar Mated Pair, Reverse 35% Clad Layer Split
1972 $1 Type Three Eisenhower Dollar--Reverse 35% Clad Layer Split, #1--AU58 PCGS, and an Undated Eisenhower Dollar--Reverse 35% Clad Layer Split, #2--MS62 PCGS. Mated pair clad layer lamination errors are rare on any denomination, and are very rare on Eisenhower Dollars, which were produced in limited quantity for only eight years. About one-third of the reverse clad layer broke off after the strike, between 1 and 4:30, perhaps due to improper bonding between the reverse clad layer and the copper core. A lustrous example with light gold color and a few moderate pinscratches, these are limited to the obverse aside from a pinscratch on the reverse near 9 o'clock.
