Description

Mint Error 1906 Liberty Nickel, Struck on Cent Planchet, AU50

1906 Liberty Nickel--Struck on Cent Planchet--AU50 PCGS. Deep red-brown and iridescent coloration inhabits the surfaces of this interesting and rare mint error. A 1906 Liberty nickel was struck on an Indian cent planchet; either accidentally or, perhaps, intentionally by a "midnight minter". Most of the design features were boldly struck, and the piece only shows faint evidence of light circulation, indicating that it was identified fairly quickly by someone as an anomaly, and withdrawn from the channels of commerce.
