Description:
Impressive 1921-S Walker, MS63
1921-S 50C MS63 PCGS. The key-date Walking Liberty half dollar, the 1921-S is always in demand in any higher circulated grade, and especially in Mint State grades. For the early series of Walkers, MS63 is an extremely popular grade level that combines a serious collecting challenge with excellent quality and affordability. The formation of a matched set of MS63 pieces from 1916 through 1933, including all date and mintmark issues, can present a long-term project. For anyone contemplating such a set, acquisition of this coin will prove a wise choice, with nearly all the others seeming easy in comparison. The only other series rarity is the 1919-D. Most numismatic advisors advocate starting any collection with the difficult coins, leaving the common issues for later. With recent market increases for key-date coins, this advice is more important today than it has been at any time in the past.
Like most examples of the date, this piece is a trifle soft on the design highpoints. None of the early dates have strong strikes like many later issues. Both sides are fully lustrous with satin surfaces that accompany light gold toning on the obverse with a brilliant reverse. A few insignificant abrasions limit the grade, and small specks of dark toning are evident near the obverse and reverse borders. We are pleased to offer this impressive and important half dollar, from an old-time holding that has been off the market for decades. Population: 29 in 63, 60 finer (5/08).(Registry values: N4719) (#6585)
