Description:
Pretty 1870 Indian Princess Dollar
Regular Seated Liberty Reverse
Judd-1017, PR64 Brown
1870 $1 Dollar, Judd-1017, Pollock-1151, Low R.7, PR64 Brown NGC.
Design.
The obverse is the Longacre Indian Princess design, while the reverse is that of the regular-issue Seated Liberty dollar. Struck in copper with a plain edge.

Commentary.
Fewer than a dozen are known of this plain edge variety, according to USPatterns.com. The plain edge and reeded edge copper variants with the regular Seated Liberty (Judd-1016 and 1017) appear to be of about equal rarity; in fact, the combined NGC and PCGS population data show 10 "submission events" of each kind.

Physical Description.
The term "Brown" is such an understatement for a rare coin of this quality. Lovely highlights of rose, orange, blue, and purple play over the surfaces on both sides of this near-Gem coin. NGC Census: 3 in PR64 Brown, 4 finer. PCGS Population: 1 in PR64 Brown, 6 finer (12/08).

Provenance.
Ex: Greater New York Numismatic Convention Sale (Stack's, 4/1987), lot 553.
From The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two. (PCGS# 61265)
