Description:
Morgan Quarter in Silver
Judd-1593, PR67 Cameo
1879 25C Morgan Quarter Dollar, Judd-1593, Pollock-1787, Low R.7, PR67 Cameo NGC.
Design.
Easily called a Morgan quarter, the obverse shows a familiar George T. Morgan Liberty Head design with peripheral inscriptions arranged differently from the silver dollar. Two stars, E PLURIBUS, seven stars, UNUM, four stars (total 13), and the date 1879 below. On the reverse a spread-winged eagle holds an olive sprig in its right talon, three arrows in its left. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is at the upper rim, with QUARTER DOLLAR at the lower rim. IN GOD WE TRUST is awkwardly squeezed in on three sides of the eagle. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.

Commentary.
This pattern variety is another whose rarity seems to verge on High R.6/Low R.7 depending on the determination of exactly how many separate examples truly survive--no easy task.

Physical Description.
Sumptuous central shades of obverse aquamarine cede at the extreme rim to orange and saffron on this pristine Superb Gem. The reverse offers a palette of lighter intensity with gold and aqua shades predominating. NGC Census: Even though this PR67 Cameo coin displays startling originality, incredibly there are two examples finer at NGC. PCGS Population: 1 in PR67 with no designation, 1 finer (12/08).

Provenance.
Ex: Stack's private treaty.
From The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two.
(PCGS# 61970)
