Description:
1899-S Liberty Ten, MS66
Second Finest Known
1899-S $10 MS66 PCGS. The incredible Eliasberg specimen is the finest surviving 1899-S Liberty eagle, graded MS67 PCGS prior to its August 1991 auction appearance, and more recently graded MS69 NGC. The PCGS Population Report no longer records the MS67 coin but does list one piece certified MS68, probably a resubmission of the Eliasberg coin before it was sent to NGC.
Next in line is the present Premium Gem, also an amazing survivor from the mintage of 841,000 coins. As usual, nearly all gold coins struck in San Francisco entered circulation or were exported, creating a long line of condition rarities.
This specimen has satiny yellow-gold luster with bold design elements, and brilliant, pristine surfaces. A few tiny marks are inconsequential, and small copper toning splashes will assist the pedigree researcher. Population: 1 in 66, 1 finer (3/11).(Registry values: N1) (NGC ID# 267L, PCGS# 8744)
