Description:
Mint State 1823 Half Eagle, BD-1
Remarkably Smooth Fields
1823 $5 MS61 PCGS. BD-1, High R.4. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a without clash marks. The only die pairing known for the 1823. A fully struck representative of this better date. Toned pumpkin-gold overall with hints of lime-green on the open fields. Uncommonly devoid of abrasions for the MS61 level, though we note a few faint hairlines on the field beneath the eagle's left (facing) wing. The reverse peripheral legends display minor strike doubling, as coined. The eye appeal is exceptional for the designated grade, and the piece is certain to be a highlight of an advanced collection of early half eagles. Population: 5 in 61, 14 finer (11/11).
