Description:
1871-S Ten Dollar, AU55
Unknown in Uncirculated Grades
1871-S $10 AU55 NGC. No Mint State examples have been certified of this scarce S-mint ten. The finest known are a small grouping of seven pieces in AU58. This orange-gold example shows good portions of luster surrounding the devices, but the central devices are softly struck as usual. The left obverse field shows an interesting triangular die crack that has a small cud in the center -- quite an interesting feature on a coin with such a low mintage. Census: 14 in 55, 7 finer (12/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 264Y, PCGS# 8662)
