Description:
Very Scarce B-2, BB-72 1797 Dollar
Small Letters Reverse, 9x7 Stars
1797 $1 9x7 Stars, Small Letters Genuine PCGS. B-2, BB-72, R.4. The PCGS number ending in .97 suggests Environmental Damage as the reason, or one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of a Fine specimen with environmental damage. The 1797 Draped Bust dollar claims a small mintage of 7,776 pieces and the B-2 variety was once considered a great rarity. A small number of additional specimens surfaced over the years, expanding the supply to the extent of 200 or more examples in all grades. Despite the noted damage (a few small spots of corrosion on both sides) this coin remains an attractive specimen of this scarce issue. (NGC ID# 24X4, PCGS# 6866)
