Description:
1909-O Half Eagle, AU58+
Rarest Date of the Indian Type

1909-O $5 AU58+ NGC. CAC. Variety 1. From an exceptionally low mintage of 34,200 pieces, the 1909-O is the rarest Indian Head half eagle. It is also extremely important to mintmark type collectors because it is the only O-mint half eagle to feature the Indian Head design and the final gold coin of the New Orleans series. Demand for this issue has increased tremendously in recent years and any auction appearance inspires intense competition.
The present coin shows the weak, slightly doubled mintmark characteristic of variety 1. The design elements are sharply detailed with minimal signs of wear and the light green and orange-gold surfaces are remarkably free of serious abrasions. This high-end near-Mint specimen is a prize for the discerning collector.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 25ZK, PCGS# 8515)
