1794 S-33, B-19 Cent, Fine Details
Famous Wheelspoke Reverse
The Twice Robinson Brown Specimen
1794 1C Head of 1794 -- Corrosion -- NGC Details. Fine. S-33, B-19, R.6. This famous variety has several radial die cracks inward from the border, resembling spokes of a wheel. The central reverse die bulge, obliterating the denomination, is usual for this variety. In the order they first appeared, the following die cracks are evident on the reverse, each extending in from the border: 1. At I of UNITED; 2. to the first A of AMERICA; 3. to the right ribbon end; 4. below the U in UNITED; and 5. from the rim between the A and T of STATES.
Both sides of this ebony toned specimen have light roughness spread evenly across the surfaces. A few old reverse scratches are blended with the surrounding surface. Only about two dozen examples are known, and various die states ensure a high level of demand. Our EAC grade Good 5.
Ex: James F. Ruddy; Del Bland (1967); Robinson S. Brown, Jr. (Superior, 1/1986), lot 44; Robinson S. Brown, Jr. (Superior, 1/1996), lot 48; Dan Trollan (10/2001).
