1793 S-1, B-1 AMERI. Cent, VG10
Early Die State
1793 Chain 1C AMERI. VG10 PCGS. S-1, B-1, R.4. An early die state with the usual bulge over the U in UNITED. Faint clash marks are noted, but no die cracks are present. The Chain cents were the first large cents issued for circulation early in 1793, and the AMERI was the first variety of the design. This early-state piece was one of the first AMERI cents; therefore, it was one of the first large cents ever minted in Philadelphia.
This lovely specimen has pleasing light olive surfaces with hints of tan. A few old scratches and handling marks are noted on each side, especially at 10 o'clock on the reverse. Our EAC grade VG7.
Purchased from Chris Victor-McCawley (2/2001).
From The Phillip Clover Collection of U.S. Large Cents. (PCGS# 35432)
