Description:
1885-S Double Eagle, MS63
The Only Common Issue of 1885
1885-S $20 MS63 PCGS. CAC. The 1885 double eagle follows a familiar pattern that began in 1881, with limited Philadelphia mintages and high San Francisco mintages. The Carson city Mint also produced modest quantities of double eagles from 1882 to 1885, including under 10,000 in the latter year. This impressive Select Mint State piece has scattered marks and bold design motifs, with brilliant yellow luster and delicate greenish overtones. PCGS has only certified 33 finer examples (1/13).(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 26BP, PCGS# 9005)
