Description:
1969-S Doubled Die Cent, AU58
Prized FS-101 Variant
1969-S 1C Doubled Die AU58 PCGS. FS-101. Neither the most famous nor the widest of the Lincoln cent doubled dies, the 1969-S FS-101 easily is the most prized among connoisseurs of the series. A low-output variant to begin with, it suffered by being branded a counterfeit alongside forged 1969 Philadelphia dies, the mistake acknowledged only after several examples were melted. This lightly rubbed example must have been pulled from circulation soon after its release. Worn areas are noted on the high points of Lincoln's face, complicated by one of two areas of deep brown on the portrait. Still-glossy fields are brown with emerald and blue overtones. All in all, an attractive and accessible example of this noteworthy rarity.(Registry values: P1) (PCGS# 2921)
