Description:
1921 Walking Liberty Half, MS65+
Only Two Finer Coins at NGC
1921 50C MS65+ NGC. CAC. The 1921 Walking Liberty half dollar claims the second-lowest business-strike mintage of the series, at a mere 246,000 pieces. Both of the branch mint half dollar production totals were also low in 1921, undoubtedly because of the huge mintage of Morgan dollars mandated by the provisions of the 1918 Pittman Act. The 1921 is one of the rarest Walking Liberty half dollars in absolute terms, but a few high-quality examples, like the present coin, were saved by contemporary collectors.

This high-end Gem is sharply detailed for an early series issue, with clear separation between Liberty's thumb and finger on the wreath hand. Radiant mint luster is evident on both sides and the well-preserved surfaces display accents of sea-green and lavender toning. Census: 34 in 65 (1 in 65+), 2 finer (10/13).

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
