Description:
1916 Standing Liberty Quarter
MS64 Full Head
1916 25C MS64 Full Head NGC. Ranked, as always, in the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins (third edition), the first-year 1916 Standing Liberty quarter is at the top of everyone's want list when searching for a high-quality Type One representative of the series. In terms of absolute rarity, it places behind the 1918/7-S overdate quarter -- but in sheer popularity, it is the hands-down favorite Standing Liberty quarter to own.

Most type enthusiasts settle for the more available 1917 date when filling out their quarter set. Others wait hopefully for the perfect 1916 coin -- like this one -- to come along. Soft, frosted mint luster is satiny-bright beneath light lilac patina and a rose-tinted undertone. Prepare for a competitive battle to acquire such a sought-after, near-Gem scarcity. Census: 47 in 64 Full Head, 68 finer (12/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 242Y, PCGS# 5705)
