1922 Grant With Star Half, MS67
No Numerically Finer Examples
1922 50C Grant With Star MS67 NGC. Ex: Steven Forcier Collection of U.S. Classic Commemoratives. Beginning collectors sometimes confuse the similarly named and identically designed silver and gold issues, more properly called the Grant Memorial coins, but there is no similarity in their net distributions or modern-day rarity. While the Grant With Star and Grant No Star gold dollars each had virtually identical distributions of approximately 5,000 pieces, the No Star half dollars were disbursed to an extent 16 times greater than the With Star halves. The twin (except for size) designs are by the talented Laura Gardin Fraser, but the much larger half dollars demonstrate its appeal to much better advantage.

In Superb Gem condition, this piece is one of only eight certified at NGC, with one example having achieved a Star designation, with none finer. PCGS has certified only five at the MS67 level, with none finer (11/13). The surfaces are brilliant gray-white, with little discernible color. Grant's cheek in particular and the surfaces overall are exceptionally pristine, distraction-free, and fully struck. One of the finest of this key commemorative half issue.
Ex: Houston Signature (Heritage, 12/2009), lot 1238.(Registry values: N10218) (NGC ID# 28KC, PCGS# 9307)
