Description:
Choice About Uncirculated 1795 Eagle, 13 Leaves (Taraszka-2) Variety
1795 $10 13 Leaves AU55 PCGS. B. 2-A, Taraszka-2, R.4. Formerly offered as lot 7089 in our recent Central States Sale, where it was described as, "It is always an occasion of pride when we can offer a high grade representative of this, the first Eagle in U.S. coinage history. The 1795 is the most common issue of the Capped Bust Right, Small Eagle type, most likely because the public saved numerous examples for their impressive size and novelty. When compared to later issues, however, the 1795 is rare, and no more than 3% of the 5,583 pieces produced are believed extant. As is typical of the issue, the surfaces retain evidence of a semi-prooflike finish. The color is a deeply set, rich, green-gold shade, but warmer orange-gold overtones are seen at direct angles. The strike is well centered with few areas of noticeable incompleteness of detail, and the surfaces, while scuffy from circulation, are mostly free of individually distracting abrasions. There are, however, a few obverse scrapes around the B in LIBERTY. An important offering for the advanced type collector or gold specialist." (NGC ID# 25ZT, PCGS# 8551)
