Description:
Another Wass Molitor Fifty Dollar From the Estate of Jack Klausen, XF40 PCGS
1855 $50 Wass Molitor Fifty Dollar XF40 PCGS. K-9, R.5. A second and even finer example of this historically important and rare Territorial issue, both sides exhibit rich green-gold color that lightens somewhat at direct angles. The number of small and moderate abrasions is typical of a Fifty Dollar gold piece at the Extremely Fine level of preservation. Nevertheless, accuracy compels us to mention a few scattered indentations in the upper obverse field and on the reverse around the denomination 50 DOLLARS. Sharply struck with plenty of remaining detail. Listed on page 298 of the current Guide Book.
This is our first offering of an XF40 Wass Molitor Fifty Dollar this year. In fact, this coin is one of only four so graded examples that we have sold at auction over the past decade. The other three coins are:

1. Ex: 1993 Baltimore ANA Signature Sale, lot 5881. The coin was uncertified when it sold.

2. Ex: 1994 Detroit ANA Signature Sale, lot 7931. PCGS-certified.

3. Ex: October 2001 Long Beach Signature Sale, lot 9689. Also PCGS-certified.
