Description:
Condition Census, Gem 1889-CC Morgan Dollar
1889-CC $1 MS65 NGC. To the devoted Morgan Dollar enthusiast, the 1889-CC is a desirable issue in any grade and a rarity of legendary proportions at the Uncirculated level, being out of reach to most collectors even in average Mint State grades. The remarkable Gem we now offer shares little with the typical high grade survivor. Not only are the untoned surfaces totally lacking in prooflike or even semi-prooflike qualities, but the fields are actually satiny in appearance. Further inspection reveals central devices that are profoundly clean and struck with the near-perfect execution that is characteristic of the issue. Only the most trivial blemishes can be found in the fields, and there are die cracks on each side that connect some of the peripheral devices. Some notable die clashing is also noted on the reverse, only being mentioned due to the importance of the offering. This sale and any of our signature auctions are certain to include a number of "important" Morgan Dollars, but few such pieces exceed or even approach the cachet of a Gem 1889-CC. Population: 4 in 65, 1 finer (4/05).(#7190) (Registry values: P9, N10218) (NGC ID# 2559, PCGS# 7190)
