Description:
Splendid Mint State 1832 C-1 Half Cent
1832 1/2 C C-1, B-1, R.2. Die State 1. MS65 Brown NGC. MS63 EAC. Small date, small stars; High leaf below right side of S. The Cohen Plate Coin for the second edition. The reverse die is the same as used earlier for 1831 Original Half Cents. Jules Reiver was the first to discover an unusual feature on this reverse die. In the July 1976 issue of Penny-Wise, Jules discussed the "Accessory E" feature, which is named from the existence of an E punched into the die in the wreath, located directly below the E in STATES. The lower left serif of that letter peeks out from beneath the wreath. It is almost a certainty that this is the coin which Jules was examining when he made the discovery. Dare we call it a "discovery coin" for this feature? Frosty and fully lustrous with chestnut and pale blue coloration. A couple darker toning spots (not carbon) above the L in HALF may help to identify the pedigree. See also, the 1837 N-12 large cent for another "Accessory E" feature discovered by Jules Reiver. Breen Die State III.
Ex: Barnett (2/1967). Envelope Included.(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 222Y, PCGS# 1159)
