Description:
Choice AU 1812 Half Eagle
1812 $5 AU55 ANACS. Wide 5D, Breen-6466, B. 1-B, Miller-118, R.3. Both the Wide 5D and Narrow 5D reverse both share the same obverse. The Wide 5D is the more frequently encountered of the two variants. As the final date in the Capped Bust design, the 1812 is also one of the dates a collector can turn to for a high grade example for a type set. This piece shows bright green-gold surfaces. The obverse is sharply struck, as usual, but the reverse is soft on the eagle's plumage, also a normal occurrence. A couple of Mint-made problems limit the grade of this piece: a few light adjustment marks (or are they roller marks?) are seen over the highpoint of Liberty's cheek, and there is also a shallow planchet void in the left obverse field.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25PL, PCGS# 8112)
