Description:
Conditionally Rare 1874-S Arrows Seated Dime, MS66 NGC
1874-S 10C Arrows MS66 NGC. Throughout the various series of United States coins, certain issues have become known as condition rarities. This term refers to a relatively common coin that is rare or even extremely rare when above a certain grade level. Such is the case with this 1874-S Seated Liberty dime. We have records of 12 examples that we have sold over the past dozen years, with the best previous coin grading just MS64. Likewise, NGC has graded 27 examples of this issue, with this and one other coin being the only Gem quality examples. As a date, 1874-S is a scarce issue from a mintage of 240,000 coins. In Gem quality, this issue is extremely rare, and the present coin is one of the best that has been certified. The surfaces have frosty luster with pale champagne toning. A planchet flake is noted in the right obverse field, this being mentioned only as a future identifier. The reverse has several light die cracks through the wreath. Census: 2 in 66, none are finer at either service (7/06).(Registry values: N1) (NGC ID# 23BM, PCGS# 4670)
