Nick Dawes began his career in his native England and brings over forty years of experience in the antiques and fine art auction business. He emigrated to New York in 1979 and has pursued his career there as an auctioneer, appraiser, author, lecturer, and antiques dealer. Nick is a former Department Head and auctioneer at Phillips and at Sotheby’s in New York and has organized his own auctions at several prominent auction houses.  He held annual exhibitions of Lalique glass hood ornaments at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance for over twenty years since 1993 and is considered this country’s leading authority on the work of Rene Lalique. Nick is the author of four standard works on decorative arts, together with scores of articles, and lectures widely internationally.  He has been a faculty member of Parsons School of Design since 1984 and has taught Luxury Marketing at Columbia Business School and courses on English and French furniture at Bard Graduate Center. Nick is a seasoned appraiser across a variety of specialties and has been a board member of AAA (Appraisers Association of America) since 2019.  He is active within many charitable organizations and is the former Chairman and CEO of Salmagundi, the oldest artist’s club in New York City founded in 1871.  He first appeared as an appraiser on "Antiques Roadshow" for PBS in the second ever broadcast of the show, and has appeared regularly ever since, discussing ceramics, glass, silver, and other decorative arts.

Jill Burgum has dedicated the last three decades to the field of jewelry. After graduating from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a B.A. in Art History, she attended Bowman Tech and Stewart’s International for training in jewelry manufacturing and repair. Her studies led to the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, California, where she completed degrees in Graduate Gemology and Jewelry Design in 1994.

Ms. Burgum began her professional career working for a private jeweler in San Diego, CA. She then moved to San Francisco as a jewelry cataloger for Butterfield & Butterfield Auctions in 1996. She transferred to their Los Angeles Jewelry department in 1997 as a lead specialist, eventually leaving to build two jewelry websites for start-up companies. She has also worked in retail jewelry sales and owned an independent jewelry appraisal business. Ms. Burgum is USPAP compliant. She is a member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers, an International Member of the Jewellery Valuers Association (U.K.), the Scottish Gemmological Association, and the Women’s Jewelry Association.

She has contributed to Art + Auction, Brilliant, Eclat, Maine Antiques Digest, Modern Jeweler, MSN Money, and Rapaport magazines.  Ms. Burgum has been a guest lecturer for the Los Angeles Natural History Museum, Gem & Mineral Council, the Jewellery Valuers Association, the Women’s Jewelry Association, and the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers and has appeared as a specialist on HGTV, KTLA, CNN, FOX Business, and Antiques Roadshow.

Jim Wolf began his horological career in 1980 as an apprentice watchmaker and cataloger for Ashland Investments.  He quickly became a key executive in charge of sales and acquisitions and developed an industry leading catalog series presenting fine antique pocket watches, vintage wristwatches and estate jewelry.  As a dealer and advisor to watch collectors worldwide, Jim has provided expert consultation concerning values, authenticity, and investment potential.  Jim is also highly respected by collectors for his thorough knowledge of the historical, technical and aesthetic aspects of watches.  Mr. Wolf has been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors since 1982 and a long-standing consultant to the authors of The Complete Price Guide to Watches.  Jim has written numerous articles for watch and jewelry publications including HR magazine, the NAWCC Bulletin and the Market Resource Guide.  He is also the co-author of The Complete Guide to Antique Jewelry.  

In the late 1970’s Mr. Wolf majored in classical guitar at the State University of New York and went on to a concert career as member of the Buffalo Guitar Quartet with appearances at Carnegie Hall and many major concert venues in the United States and Canada.  In the 1990’s, Jim played second chair cello as a volunteer with the Sarasota Pops Orchestra

A native of Puerto Rico, David moved to Chicago in 1993 to attend Prairie State College and the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 1998, to continue his studies he moved to San Francisco, where he decided to apply for a summer Firearms position with Butterfield and Butterfield Auctions, and he has remained in the auction business in San Francisco ever since. Since then, he has developed broad general knowledge of firearms, with specialties in early Spanish Miquelet firearms and other Latin America-related collectibles. David became a founding member of our San Francisco office and our Arms and Armor Department when Heritage acquired his employer’s auction company in 2011. He also travels extensively, representing Heritage at numerous gun shows throughout the country, and regularly appears as an expert-appraiser on Antiques Roadshow.

Sebastian is the Managing Director for Heritage Auctions, Palm Beach office. With over 25 years of experience in the auction industry, be has served as a Senior Vice President at Doyle Auctioneers and Appraisers and the Director of the English and Continental Furniture and Decorative Arts department, Specialist in the European Furniture department at Sotheby’s, Director of the English and Continental furniture department at Freeman’s and as Director of Trusts and Estates at Rago Auctions. Katherine Van Dell is a jewelry specialist and Gemological Institute of America graduate gemologist. Katherine is Director of Jewelry for Heritage and Co-Director of Heritage’s Palm Beach office. She began her career in Philadelphia at Freeman’s. She later joined Rago Auctions and was instrumental in departmental growth as head of the jewelry. Katherine then joined Doyle as a Vice President and jewelry specialist based out of Palm Beach, Florida. As a specialist, Katherine is constantly informed by her understanding of basic construction, aesthetics, and historical context. A graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, Katherine studied metalwork, bench craft and art history in her undergraduate studies and later obtained her graduate gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America. Katherine regularly speaks and writes on a broad range of topics relating to jewelry and the history of jewelry. Katherine and her husband Sebastian Clarke, also an Antiques Roadshow appraiser, reside with their family in West Palm Beach, Florida.
