Uncirculated Details 1915-S
Panama-Pacific Fifty

1915-S $50 Panama-Pacific 50 Dollar Octagonal--Scratches--NGC. Unc Details. In the broad range of souvenirs offered at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, the fifty dollar gold coins--sold at twice their face value--surely were among the most expensive. Only a relative handful of attendees and associates were able to afford them, and just 645 examples of the more popular octagonal variety sold. Today, survivors are enduring and popular collectibles. Though this piece shows light pinscratches on the devices, and the reverse exhibits a pair of flaws more akin to staple scratches, the lustrous yellow-gold surfaces are unworn, and the obverse displays well with few significant abrasions.
