The Downing-Rasmussen Specimen

1795 1C Jefferson Head, Plain Edge -- Environmental Damage -- NGC Details. VF. S-80, B-11b, R.5. The Jefferson Head cent was first described by coin dealer Ebenezer Locke Mason, Jr. in 1869, referring to a coin in the J. Colvin Randall Collection. Over more than 140 years since its discovery, the variety is rated R.5, with only about 50 to 60 examples known. This lightly corroded specimen has ebony patina on the obverse, with intermingled olive-tan and steel on the reverse. Our EAC grade VG8.
