Description

Significant 1918/7-D Nickel, MS62

1918/7-D 5C MS62 PCGS. CAC. FS-101, formerly FS-016.5. The 1918/7-D is one of the most popular Buffalo nickel varieties, and it is significantly scarcer than the 1937-D Three-Legged. Its rarity is supported by the fact that the overdate escaped detection until 1930, over a decade after its issue. The average grade from NGC and PCGS is just below Very Fine, and David Lange (2006) estimates that only about two dozen Uncirculated examples have survived, although that number may be a little low.
Subtle luster and a touch of lemon-yellow accents the mostly medium-gray surfaces. Several wispy grazes do not distract. The strike is bold, and the overdate is prominent. This piece would make an excellent addition to a high-end Buffalo nickel set.(Registry values: N7079)
