Extremely Rare Mint State Peter I Rouble

Peter I (The Great) Rouble 1723 OK, Bust right/Four crowned Russian P's in the form of a cross, Diakov-49, Uzd 610, MS62 NGC. Superbly struck with near-flawless surfaces, mottled gray patina and considerable underlying luster. The finest Peter the Great Rouble that we have seen and a stunning example of early Russian numismatic art.

Peter the Great was born in Moscow in 1672 and died in 1725. Although he was tsar only from 1682-1725, he is credited with beginning the Westernization of Russia and starting it on the road to becoming an international power. There was much turmoil during his reign and Peter could be quite brutal at times, even his half-sister Sofia and wife Eudoxia were forced to become nuns when they conspired against him.
