Description

Superlative 1937-D Three-Legged Buffalo, MS66

1937-D 5C Three-Legged MS66 ★ NGC. CAC. This is an incredible 1937-D Three-Legged Buffalo nickel. The story of the Three-Legged Buffalo is the oft told story of a Mint workman who was overzealous when polishing the reverse die to remove clash marks or other defects. He went so far that he removed the bottom half of the right front leg.
This Star designated Premium Gem has satiny luster with attractively intermingled turquoise, amber, and violet toning on both sides. The strike is well above average, and the overall desirability is amazing. NGC has certified two examples as MS66 ★ , one other as MS67, and one as MS67 ★ (10/09).(Registry values: N7079)
