Description

1956 Half Dollar on a Quarter Planchet, MS62
A Noteworthy Wrong-Planchet Error

1956 Franklin Half--Struck on a Quarter Planchet--MS62 ANACS. Only Philadelphia struck half dollars in 1956, which allows a definitive attribution of this example despite the mintmark area being cut off. The too-small quarter planchet was shifted toward 1 o'clock on the obverse, and while most of Franklin and the bell remain on the flan, there are voids affecting the mottoes and legends along the rims, such as IN GOD WE TRUST on the obverse and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the reverse. Housed in an ANA-era small-format ANACS holder.
