Description
Lovely 1871-CC Twenty, AU55
1871-CC $20 AU55 NGC. After the extremely limited production of double eagles in Carson City the previous year, that mint set about striking 17,387 double eagles in 1871. Hardly a high mintage, but sufficient that enough have survived to make the hunt only mildly challenging. This lovely piece has faint green over light yellow surfaces with considerable luster. Few marks are evident on either side, certainly fewer than normal for these coins. Choosing an example with relatively few marks will pay dividends as the typical survivor is well worn and heavily abraded. Census: 24 in 55, 27 finer (9/09).From The Little Rock Collection.(Registry values: N1793)
