Description

Very Scarce and Underrated 1800 Eagle, MS62 PCGS

1800 $10 MS62 PCGS. B. 1-A, Taraszka-23, R.4. This is the only die marriage of this scarce date, and a later die state with a bold die crack through the tops of LIBERTY and faint crack below the olive stem to the tail feathers. A memorable number of pieces were produced of this issue: 5,999. The 1800 is generally regarded by specialists as a very scarce and undeservedly overlooked date among early tens. It is also a scarce date in high grades, especially when compared to the 1799 and 1801. Only 18 pieces have been so graded by PCGS with 12 finer, with a similar number certified by NGC (6/05). The mint luster on this coin is bright in the fields and shows a soft, frosted appearance overall. There are only the slightest abrasions present, none of which are visible to the unaided eye. The green-gold coloration has a light overlay of reddish patina, and the striking details are firmly brought up on both sides. An outstanding buy for the astute buyer of early gold.(#8563)(Registry values: P2)
