Description

Difficult Choice VF 1870-CC Quarter

1870-CC 25C VF35 PCGS. CAC. While the mintage figure of 8,340 pieces already suggests that the 1870-CC quarter is a rarity, that number alone may not tell the whole story, since several numismatic writers (among them Walter Breen and Rusty Goe) have questioned whether part or nearly all of that production was withheld from circulation. It is known that of those pieces which escaped the Mint, most circulated heavily. The present coin, though moderately worn, is actually upper-end for the issue. LIBERTY is bold, and the deep gray surfaces have only one mentionable mark, a pinscratch above Liberty's left (facing) leg. Population: 4 in 35, 7 finer (2/09).
