Description

Rare MS67 2000-P 'Cheerios' Dollar

2000-P $1 Cheerios MS67 PCGS. FS-901. Incorrectly listed as FS-401 on the PCGS holder, which is the Cherrypickers' designation for the "Wounded Eagle" damaged die variety. This is the "Cheerios" variety, given that name by the hobby since examples came from boxes of Cheerios cereal. The Sacagawea dollar was introduced in 2000, and U.S. Mint marketing included a Cheerios promotion. While every box contained a 2000 cent, only occasional boxes had both the cent and a 2000-P dollar. It turned out that those dollars were from a different reverse hub than the regular dollars. The differences are found on the tail feathers, which show greater detail on the "Cheerios" dollars. This is a lustrous and flawless sun-gold Premium Gem. An MS66 Red "Cheerios" 2000 cent accompanies the lot, as does the cut laminated holder that once held both coins within a Cheerios cereal box. Population: 13 in 67, 16 finer (5/09).
