Description

Quality Near-Mint 1892-S Morgan Dollar

1892-S $1 AU58 PCGS. With its production of 1.2 million pieces, the 1892-S is hardly the lowest-mintage Morgan dollar, yet it is one of the most elusive in better grades. The immense difficulty of acquiring a Mint State example puts immense pressure on the tiny supply (estimated at below 100 pieces total), and even near-Mint examples have experienced dramatic increases in demand in recent years.
This attractive survivor, one that doubtless passed as Mint State at least once prior to its encapsulation, offers vibrant and virtually intact luster. The overall definition is excellent, and the highpoints show only a hint of friction. Delicate gold-orange shadings visit the centers, while the margins are minimally toned.
