Description
Mostly Red PR64 1871 Longacre Dollar, Judd-1147
1871 $1 One Dollar, Judd-1147, Pollock-1289, R.6-7, PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. The Longacre design is used on the obverse that features Liberty seated with conjoined flags behind, left hand resting on a globe, and right hand holding a Phrygian cap on top. The reverse is of the regular die. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This is the most common of the Longacre dollar designs of the year. It is often called the obverse of 1870 although it does not have Longacre's name in the right corner. The fields are deeply reflective and most of the original fiery-red luster is still evident on each side--there is a very fine line between full red and full red color that has slightly mellowed enough to be called Red and Brown, as seen on this coin. Fully and intricately detailed, there are a few tiny specks of carbon on each side that serve to limit this piece to the PR64 category. From The New Millennium Collection. (#71409)
