Phenomenal PR68 ★ Cameo 1880 Dollar

1880 $1 PR68 ★ Cameo NGC. The proof emission of the 1880 Morgan dollar--1,355 pieces--was the most generous of the entire series, and it undoubtedly has much to do with the numerous examples that survive today in phenomenally high grades. The existence of superhigh-grade pieces is, however, likely due as much to careful preservation as to high mintages. Either way, this phenomenal specimen has been blessed both by careful manufacture and meticulous subsequent preservation. A light golden ring graces the rim on the obverse, with the reverse adding a deeper amber-gold shade. Considerable mint frost coats the devices, and the fields are highly reflective and essentially distraction-free. This specimen is one of 13 pieces so graded at NGC, with a single piece finer (11/06).(Registry values: N7079)
