Important Choice AU 1893-S Morgan Dollar

1893-S $1 AU55 PCGS. The rarity and importance of the 1893-S issue is well known to Morgan dollar collectors. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth chose to include the '93-S as entry number 83 in their book on the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins, wherein they included the following comments: "The 1893-S Silver Dollar has the lowest mintage of any of the Morgan Dollars issued between 1878 and 1921, making it one of the rarest and most valuable coins in the series. In fact, the 1893-S Silver Dollar is the most valuable of any of the dates made for circulation." This Choice AU example is particularly attractive for the grade, with mostly unmarked surfaces that show a uniform layer of rose-gray patina across each side. Boldly struck and lightly worn from brief circulation, with significant glints of original luster still evident near the devices." Population: 24 in 55, 43 finer (3/09).
