Description

Mid-Grade 1836 Gobrecht Dollar, Die Alignment I
VF30 Details

1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1--Altered Surfaces--ANACS. VF30 Details. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I (Liberty's head opposite DO). An early December striking, as seen by the lack of the diagonal die scratch above the eagle's wing. The ANACS insert says the coin has Altered Surfaces. This does not mean there is any repair or tooling present. Rather, the coin has been cleaned and inexpertly retoned. The surfaces are an even deep gray-olive over each side. Close examination shows a few shallow scratches, but none are worthy of individual mention. Even wear over the high points of the design.
