Description

Conditionally Scarce 1899 Morgan Dollar PR66

1899 $1 PR66 PCGS. This is a lovely Premium Gem specimen of the proof Morgan dollar, and one that probably deserves more attention than it will actually receive from prospective bidders. Bowers (1993) notes that: "Although 1899 is a low mintage (from the standpoint of business strike and Proof production combined), in the past specimens have sold for the 'type' price." This piece is sharply struck and well preserved, without any contact marks or distracting hairlines on either side. A paper-thin slide mark is noted just below and to the left of Liberty's mouth, while faint, mottled milkiness occurs in the left reverse field. Population: 10 in 66, 10 finer (2/08). (Registry values: N2998)
