Description

Desirable 1893-S Dollar, XF45 ANACS

1893-S $1 XF45 ANACS. With the lowest mintage of any collectible business strike Morgan dollar, the 1893-S is a well-established key to the series. In his focused work on the design, A Guide Book to Morgan Silver Dollars, Q. David Bowers notes that most survivors from the 100,000 pieces produced are in Very Fine, a sign that the 1893-S, unlike a number of other elusive issues, experienced considerable (though not excessive) circulation in the West.
The Choice XF representative offered here is clearly superior to the norm. The well struck devices show only minor wear concentrated at the highpoints, and the predominantly silver-gray surfaces display a measure of amber and forest-green patina at the margins. The lightly abraded fields retain significant luster, including a degree of reflectivity, and the coin's overall visual appeal is strong. A lovely piece.(Registry values: P10, N2998)
