Choice Narrow 5D 1812 Half Eagle, BD-2
1812 $5 MS64 NGC. CAC. Narrow 5D, Breen-6465, BD-2, High R.4. Boldly struck and lustrous with only a few trivial surface imperfections. The green-gold toning is consistent throughout. Lightly clashed near LIBERTY and the base of the shield. Adjustment marks are minor and limited to the obverse dentils. The rarer of the two known die marriages of 1812 half eagles. Most are the Wide 5D variety, BD-1. The final date of John Reich's Capped Bust type, replaced by the similar but cleavage-less Capped Head design of 1820 to 1834.
