Description

1886-S $1 MS66 NGC. Always considered a better date, the only sizeable release of the '86-S was from the Redfield hoard. Those coins are widely dispersed now, and most were in lower Uncirculated condition. On this piece, the grade and visual appeal is not only derived from the paucity of abrasions that normally are seen on this issue, but also from the heavily basined dies. This is especially evident on the obverse, as seen from the concavity of the fields, and the pronounced die striations on the lower part of that side. Sharply struck throughout. Census: 14 in 66, 2 finer (6/07).
