Description

Wonderful Choice Proof 1887 Three Dollar Gold

1887 $3 PR64 PCGS. With its comparatively substantial mintage (at 160 pieces, the second-largest for the series) and unusually high survival rate, the 1887 is one of the most readily available of the proof three dollar gold pieces. Still, such availability is relative, and this issue experiences tremendous demand from type and date collectors. This attractive sun-gold and honey-amber specimen offers boldly detailed devices that create a hint of contrast with the richly mirrored fields. Though a handful of fine hairlines in the fields near the portrait limit the technical grade, its overall eye appeal is remarkable. In sum, a pleasing exemplar that is sure to delight its next owner. Population: 25 in 64, 18 finer (2/08).(Registry values: N4719)
