Desirable 1795 Small Eagle Five, BD-3, AU Details
1795 $5 Small Eagle--Obverse Damage, Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. Breen-6412, BD-3, High R.3. The obverse has a small crescent-shaped punch mark at the base of the bust, above the space between the 7 and 9, leaving a small flat spot in the upper reverse field. Both sides have light hairlines from cleaning that has left the green-gold color slightly too bright, making numerous tiny abrasions fully visible. Traces of orange toning have gathered around the peripheral obverse. The reverse has a small rim flaw at 9 o'clock, easily overlooked. Still a pleasing example of an early U.S. Mint gold piece, one of the first produced.(Registry values: P5)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25ND, PCGS# 8066, GSID# 8791)
