Description

Beautiful 1909-D Gem Ten Dollar

1909-D $10 MS65 NGC. The 1909-D is a scarcer issue among early ten dollar Indians than the mintage of 121,540 pieces would indicate. Indeed, David Akers, in his May 19, 1998 catalog of the Dr. Thaine B. Price Collection, writes: "In Very Choice Uncirculated and especially Gem condition, the 1909-D is one of the great rarities of the series and is, in fact, one of the rarest of all U.S. Twentieth Century gold issues."
This Gem displays beautiful peach-gold and mint-green patina with outstanding frosty luster. An excellent strike results in sharp delineation on the design elements, further enhancing the already impressive eye appeal. A couple of diagonal hair-thin marks concealed in the eagle's left (right-facing) shoulder may help in pedigreeing the coin. Census: 4 in 65, 4 finer (2/08).(Registry values: N7079)
