Description
Superb Full Red 1909-S Lincoln Cent
1909-S 1C MS67 Red NGC. FS-012.3. Even though NGC has not certified this as an S Over Horizontal S, it certainly has all the appearances of being one. This interesting blunder was created when the mintmark was first punched into the die sideways, then corrected by the Mint employee after noticing the mistake. Its popularity eventually resulted in a separate Guide Book listing. An unspecified number of coins was produced, of which a greater percentage of high grade representatives appears to have survived than of the normal mintmark variant. This extraordinary example displays pinpoint sharpness in most areas, being just a trifle soft on the first few letters in LIBERTY and the O in ONE. A vibrant olive-gold and orange coloration is blended over fine-grain, frosty surfaces that are characteristic of this first-year issue. Among the nicest survivors of this sought-after issue we have ever offered.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22B4, PCGS# 2434, GSID# 1798)
