Elusive 1857 Flying Eagle Cent, MS64 Prooflike

1857 1C MS64 Prooflike NGC. A highly popular three-year type, the Flying Eagle cents were the first so-called "small cents" produced in the United States and were made between 1856 and 1858. The second-year 1857 issue is readily available in Mint State, but Prooflike examples are extremely rare. This piece is sharply struck and well preserved, with nary a distracting mark on either side. Essentially untoned, with highly reflective fields and lightly frosted devices. Census: 4 in 64 Prooflike, 0 finer (2/09).(Registry values: N1793)
