Description

1856 Cent, PR62, Snow-3

1856 1C PR62 NGC. Snow-3. The presence of a mispunched 5 down and to the left of the final position of that numeral and the High Leaves confirm the variety. It is Snow's belief that most, if not all of the S-3 coins were struck as business strikes. That would seem to be the case with this coin. It has the softness of detail on each side that this scarce variety is known for--which would be fully brought up on a proof. Both sides display well-matched golden-tan patina with traces of gold luster clinging to the protected areas. Close examination reveals no significant contacts or spots. Certified as a proof, but possibly a business strike. Bidders in the sale can make their own choice.(Registry values: N4719)
